The design process takes time, thought and effort on the part of the Homeowner and the Designer. Together we collaborate to take into consideration the desired function, sightlines that are meant to be disguised and enhanced, privacy requirements, maintenance time available and the overall appeal that you feel most comfortable and at home being surrounded by.
This process can even start when it is still covered in snow. Desired elevations and curves can be molded into place to create the perfect amount of privacy. While plant material complete the overall preferred theme of shape, texture, color, and evergreen vs leafy vs floral.
When landscape designing, the flow of traffic becomes as important as the individual selection of plant material. Here you can see that the traffic is specifically directed towards the front door, while plant material encourages the guest to meander and enjoy the gardens.
The atmosphere of a Landscape Design is crucial to its success. The curves and space to mature provide a feeling of elegance and welcome.
Lots of lawn, but glorious to play a game of tag football, practice that golf chip shot...
From muddy mess to the Homeowners most favorite and secluded outdoor space. The upper patio deck looks down upon the faux dry creek bed along the lower deck and the curvature of the manicured grass carved out of the natural back forest. The Maple Tree and Rose Bushes are so well naturalized into the forest verge, you'd think that they have always been there. What a place to sit back and read the moning paper, or enjoy a starry night marshmallow roast!
Professional and tidy edging discerns the lush grass area from the mulched tree berm. Interesting curves create interest for guests as they approach the home, and create interest for the homeowner to look upon from inside the home as well.
The style, color and materials that are used on a new home construction must be taken into consideration when designing the Landscape and its overall appeal. The Natural grasses were chosen to blend the home into its naturally wooded setting. The tall stalks gently sway in the breeze and allow the homeowner to enjoy them from the inside, but do not obscure road visibility. A forefront of big cottage peonies and roses enhance the farm style, while spiky Blue Fescue fill in and draw attention to the gentle curvature of this front bed.
With a dryer vent smack in the middle of this small planting bed, a roof downspout draining point, high heat morning sun, and deep cool shade in the evenings, this left planting bed had its obstacles. However, the Rocket Ligularia, Hosta and Fescue are all doing well and provide a terrific lush splash of texture and interest to the front door area.
Around the side of the home, a perimeter planting of Swedish Columnar Aspen will eventually help to disguise the meter and air conditioning unit, while the colorful but spiky Barberry draw attention to the beautiful stone fireplace detail and will eventually disguise the floating overhang. Low growing junipers help to fill in the perimeter space mindful of not obstructing natural sunlight from entering the kids playspace basement.
Ever wonder what your home would look like if you could see it without the overgrown tree's that have been there for years? That's exactly what this homeowner was contemplating. With a substantial investment in upgrading and refurbishing the exterior of the home, the bald front landscape grass was the next area of concern.
Th tree's are gone, as well as the old and brittle lilac's, what a difference their removal has made to the vastness of their property! A feature focal front planting bed and a small patio area are laid out in the design, as well as landscape design solutions for the backyard. As time and budget permits, these items are slated to be completed as well.
Balance. Professional Landscape Designers have a natural ability to see the potential of a blank canvas. Other times, they can see the 'what's missing' aspect of a potentially great overal landscape. In this case, the homeowners were seeking assistance with 'landscape completeness'. They knew what they liked, wanted, but weren't sure how to get it to feeling 'done'. By carving a bed around the post and using the same rockery materials at the unshown side of the house and adding specific plant material that coordinates to their overall theme, balances the front features, and allows the house to settle into the midst.
